mytown would like to thank and recognize the foundations, corporations and individuals that make this work possible.  With contributions from so many facets of our community, mytown has grown from working with a handful of young people a decade ago to impacting the lives of hundreds of Boston youth and thousands of tour participants.

How do I know my support is making a difference?

Learning local history and understanding the built environment is more than dwelling on the past. It allows us to develop a game plan for the future based on our ancestor's lessons, struggles and triumphs. 

  • 100% of tour participants surveyed reported that the tour had improved their opinion of the neighborhood
  • 90% of tour participants reported that the Youth Guides inspired them through their knowledge, enthusiasm, and professionalism
  • 95% of tour participants reported that they would recommend a mytown tour and or workshop to friends, family, and colleagues

Casey TourYouth Guides reside in 9 neighborhoods of Boston and attend 16 different high schools, often giving youth a chance to work with peers they would not otherwise meet

  • 100% of Youth Guides report that mytown taught them local and national history that they did not learn in school or otherwise
  • 75% of Youth Guides report that mytown helped them in the classroom both in terms of historical content (U.S. History, Civics, immigration) and skill building (particularly critical thinking, abstract reasoning, study skills, public speaking).
  • 80% of Youth Guides report that mytown helped them understand how to work constructively with their peers.
  • 60% of Youth Guides report that mytown challenged their negative perceptions of their neighborhoods by helping them understand and identify local community assets
  • 90% of Youth Guides come from low and moderate income families
